The paint that is applied on steels to protect them from fire or make them fire resistant is know as Intumescent coating. It can expand 100 times more thicker then its original thickness which creates a layer between the fire and the steel that will help in saving the structure. When it is exposed to high heat, it starts the chemical reaction that will result into expanding. Intumescent coating is normally applied like paint on the steel that is exposed to the public.
